THIS POST IS INTENDED FOR U.S. CITIZENS AND GREEN CARD HOLDERS (RESIDENT ALIENS) WHO ARE STILL WAITING TO RECEIVE PART OR ALL OF THEIR STIMULUS PAYMENTS
Here is the official IRS page for any questions about the RECOVERY REBATE CREDIT (also known as STIMULUS PAYMENT or ECONOMIC IMPACT PAYMENT (EIP).
There were 3 Stimulus Payments issued:
STIMULUS PAYMENT 1 in March 2020: $1,200
STIMULUS PAYMENT 2 in January 2021: $ 600
(these 2 payments can be claimed by filing the 2020 U.S. tax return)
STIMULUS PAYMENT 3 in March 2021: $1,400
(this payment can be claimed by filing the 2021 U.S. tax return)
If you are missing any of the above, please read carefully below:
- If you are missing STIMULUS PAYMENT 1 AND/OR 2 and:
- you have filed ELECTRONICALLY your 2020 U.S. tax return AND/OR received a letter from the IRS asking for more information regarding Tax Year 2020, there is nothing you should do except wait. Your return will be processed in due time and you will receive any missing payments. Keep in mind that the IRS currently has a 10 million tax return backlog (please refer to the previous post);
- if your 2020 tax return WAS MAILED VIA REGULAR MAIL more than 6 months ago and you still have not heard anything, it might have been lost. You will need to call the IRS on 001-267-941-1000 to confirm that they received it. If not, you will need to file it again.
- If you are missing STIMULUS PAYMENT 3, you will need to file the 2021 U.S. tax return and claim it there as a refund. You can do this from January 24, 2022 onwards when the 2021 tax season opens.
